PAGB Awards for Photographic Merit

In November 2024, the Welsh Photographic Federation will be hosting an adjudication of the PAGB Awards for Photographic Merit here in South Wales.

To encourage WPF Club members to attempt one of the awards, we’ll be holding a workshop in Briton Ferry on 1st July 2023. On the morning of the workshop, Rod Wheelans MPAGB MFIAP FRPS FIPF HonPAGB HonSPF from the PAGB, will both introduce the APM and run a fun interactive exercise which will involve the audience. In the afternoon we’d like you to bring 5 or 6 images to see if they have potential to work towards an Award. Providing you are an active member of a WPF affiliated club, the awards you can attempt are as follows:

CPAGB – The Credit Award of the PAGB.
Requirements – A set of 10 prints or projected images there is no theme. Criteria for Pass – High Standard of club competition photography. There are 6 judges who will score each photo from 2-5 you need to score 20 points which will give you a total of 200 out of a maximum of 300 points. Entrants must have been active members of an affiliated Club for a minimum of 2 years.

DPAGB – The Distinction Award of the PAGB.
Requirements – A set of 15 prints or projected images there is no theme. Criteria for pass – To Score at least an average score of 20pts to gain 300 pts out of a maximum of 450pts and requires a high level of photographic skill with images able to be accepted into National Competitions. Application can be made for the DPAGB Award without first gaining the CPAGB, provided the applicant meets their Federation requirement.

MPAGB – The Master Award of the PAGB.
Requirements – A set of 20 prints or projected images, there is no theme. Criteria for pass – An exceptional standard of photography which would enjoy a considerable level of success in International Exhibitions, including consistent & frequent acceptances and awards. To apply, you need to have held the DPAGB for at least eleven months.

All the Awards are held for life, without any annual fee & holders are entitled to use the designated letters after their name. More information on all the awards and requirements can be found here.
