2013 Barrian Cup Results

A message from Mike Lewis: On behalf of Barry Camera Club I would like to thank all the Clubs who entered and a special thank you for the record number of people attending on the day. A last minute change to the Judge Brian Swinyard, who was unable to make the day but Bob Train LRPS stepped in and did a fantastic job judging the 120 prints entered.

Congratulations to the winners Inn Focus who won the 2013 Barrian Cup and also congratulations to Nick Walton also from Inn Focus on winning the Dave Cowdrey Trophy for the Best Landscape/Seascape Print. This is not the first time Inn Focus have done the double they also won both trophies in 2011.

Results of Bridgend 5 to 8 Competition 2013

The judging for this years competition was held on Monday 18th March, the competition attracted entries from within the WPF as well as  from North Wales, England, Scotland, Australia and South Africa. The difficult task of judging the diverse range of seuences was undertaken with great skill and humour by Linda Gibbs MPAGB AV-AFIAP and Edgar Gibbs FRPS, MPAGB AV-AFIAP of Gwynfa Camera Club. 2013 Ace of Clubs Results

Congratulations to Tenby on winnng the 2013  Ace of Clubs and to Inn Focus for finishing second. Normally those two clubs would go forward to Warwick but as Inn Focus have already qualified, this year there will be an extra WPF club, namely Ebbw Vale, who finished joint third with Bridgend but went through in a tense play off. Congratulations also to Western Valley who won the plate. More details follow when we have them. Hint hint – anyone going to write a report? Well done to hosts, Gwynfa, for organising the event. Tenby grab the 2013 Memorial

Tenby (with 72 points) narrowly won the Memorial Trophy competition from Bridgend, Inn Focus and Cardiff in joint second place on 71 points. The judge for the day was Ken Holland ARPS, DPAGB of Teignmouth who marked widely from 6 to 20. Unluckiest club of the day were undoubtedly Cardiff who had three 20s and an 11.

Best monochrome print went to Bucholic Blush by Alan Jenkinson of Bridgend and best colour print went to Lindisfarne Boat Hut by Dave Russell of Cardiff. The event was hosted by Llanelli Photographic Club. Full scores here: MEMORIAL TROPHY 2013

Gwynfa win 2012 Stanley Chell

The Travel WriterOn Saturday 24th November at Aberdare, Gwynfa Camera Club won the Stanley Chell Competition with a total score of 75 points. The Gwynfa prints were ‘Incoming‘ by Heidi Stewart; Shhhhhh by Leigh Woolford; ‘Kingfisher with Sticklebackby Alec Stewart and ‘Bible Readingby Margot Rowlands. One point behind in joint second were Bridgend & District Camera Club, Inn Focus Group and Port Talbot Camera Club. Next up were Tenby & District Camera Club on 73. The Hans Hoyer Trophy for Best Monochrome Print went to Hayden Thomas of Neath for a photo entitled Jonny Reb. The Glyn John Trophy for Best Colour Print went to Margot Rowlands of Gwynfa for ‘Bible Reading‘. The Glan and Mair Trophy for Best Landscape Print went to Alan Jenkinson of Bridgend for a print entitled ‘Bucholic Blush‘. The Doris Chell Memorial Trophy for Best Image in the Competition went to Ian Munro for ‘The Travel Writer‘. The judge for the competition was Jim Marsden FRPS, APAGB, EFIAP of Melksham. Hornbill Challenge 2012 Results & Acceptances

This just in from Neath P.S. Neath Photographic Society would like to thank everybody who entered the Hornbill Challenge 2012. The competition attracted a high quality of entrants and selecting the winners proved to be a difficult task for our judges. Neath Photographic Society would also like to thank Hornbill for sponsoring the competition and the judges for selecting the winning entries. The results of the 2102 Hornbill Challenge are here.

2012 Barrian Cup Results

The Barrian Cup took place on Saturday 9th of June with around 100 people attending. It was opened by the Councillor Eric Hacker, Mayor of Glamorgan Council, who also presented the Barrian Cup. Mrs Heather Hacker presented the Dave Cowdrey Trophy. The judge for the day was Margaret Salisbury FRPS,APAGB,MFIAP who did an excellent job and was extremely entertaining. Winners were Gwynfa Camera Club with 87 points from Tenby & District CC and Aberdare CC (both 86) and Rhondda CC, Inn Focus and Barry CC (all on 85). Gwynfa’s winning prints were: ‘Yellow Dung Fly‘ by Bob Beynon (18), ‘Skogafoss Reflected‘ by Leigh Woolford (17), ‘Mug Shot‘ by Terry Donnelly (16), ‘Juvenile Kingfisher‘ by Alec Stewart (17) and ‘Bible Reading‘ by Margot Rowlands (19). The Dave Cowdry Trophy for the best Landscape Seascape print went to Brian Merry of Rhondda CC for his print entitled ‘Raw Power’. Well done to everyone who had a print selected to represent their club.
