Inn Focus, Tenby & Gwynfa travelled to Warwick to represent the WPF at the PAGB National Print Championships on Saturday 15th July and it was a good day for the Welsh clubs.
The first two rounds of the competition consist of 16 PDI’s for each of the 38 competing clubs with images scored out of a maximum of 15. The total scores for each club over two rounds determines the eight clubs who compete in the Grand Final and the 30 clubs who contest the Plate Final.
At the end of round two Inn Focus had a total of 208, enough to qualify for the Grand Final with Tenby (189) and Gwynfa (187) going into the Plate Final.
In the Plate Final clubs need to select 8 images (with only four allowed from the previous rounds). After a high scoring final Tenby finished a creditable joint 12th on 102 points and Gwynfa achieved an excellent 3rd place on 108 points (from a possible 120) with only Tamworth (111) and Dumfries (112) ahead. Well done team Gwynfa. A great result for their travelling army.
In the Grand Final each club submits 20 images, 10 of which must not have been used in the previous rounds. After an excellent selection of images were projected to the large crowd present the winners turned out to be Smethwick PS with an incredible 282 points (from a maximum 300). In a competition where the highest score an individual image can achieve is 15, they averaged 14.1 per image. Wigan 10 were runners up on 277 and Arden PG third on 271. Inn Focus were a creditable 5th on 267 and will be automatically invited to the 2018 event.
There was futher Welsh success when it was announced that Phil Morgan of Inn Focus was awarded Judge’s Choice for his photograph European Dipper. Well done Phil. (The judges were Roger Hance FRPS AFIAP BPE5*, Gabriel O’Shaughnessy FIPF FRPS MFIAP and Richard Speir DPAGB APAGB BPE2*).

Here are the individual club results of the 2017 GB Cup Competitions.
We’ll let you have further information as soon as it is released.
The WPF hosted the annual Celtic Challenge Competition at the Glamorgan Holiday Hotel Porthcawl recently. Visitors from 5 of the Federations who competed enjoyed an abundance of splendid photography, and a masterclass in how to judge a competition by Martin Fry FRPS, APAGB, AFIAP, AV-AFIAP. The Republic of Ireland won the Competition, and won 2 of the “Best in” awards, for colour print and projected image.
It was generally agreed that the event was a great success and well put together. Every print was projected on to a large screen through Live View so everyone could see them in detail, and the projected images were displayed using DiCentra which put titles and scores on screen.
In the evening we enjoyed a splendid 4 course meal at the Hotel and welcomed Madeline Moon MP as a special guest. The Meal was preceded by entertainment by the Morlais Male Choir.
Here are the overall results and here are the individual results for monochrome prints, colour prints and PDI’s.
