WPF Entries for PAGB Inter-Fed 2023

This year’s PAGB Inter-Federation Competition is, again, for prints only and our entries have been chosen from submissions to the Memorial Competitions and the Welsh Salon, together with photographs sent directly to Jenny Hibbert, who chose the majority of our entries. The lists of entries can be found below.

John Long Photobook

John Long, a member of Kingswood Photographic Society for nearly sixty-six years, was a well-known and well-loved photographer and friend of many of us. Sadly, he passed away on 24th of January 2021 at the age of 89.

As a tribute, members of Kingswood PS are producing a photobook which will include recollections of John’s passion for photography, demonstrating his wish to share his knowledge and encouraging others on their photographic journey, as well as many of John’s photos.

If you’d like a copy of the book, please contact Adrian & Vanessa Herring before Monday, 15th of May, using Vanessa’s e-address: vanessahering@gmail.com

The cost per unit will depend on the number of our bulk order but it will be no more than £25.

AWPF Distinctions Places & Workshop

Update: the AWPF allocation is now full. See here.

If you are interested in the challenge of achieving this sought after distinction then please apply following the instructions at the WPF website Distinctions – AWPF – The Welsh Photographic Federation (mywpf.org) or email me Paul James at this email address distinctions@thewpf.co.uk for further information on how to apply.

The AWPF workshop will be held on the 13th of May at The Cynon Valley Museum to coincide with the official opening of the Welsh Salon Exhibition.  You do not have to apply for AWPF to attend the workshop but space for the AWPF workshop is very limited so if you are interested in the challenge of the AWPF this year or in future years and want to come along to find out what is involved then please email me at distinctions@thewpf.co.uk  so that I can book you a place.

Even if you are yet to apply, we will have a number of AWPF ‘tutors’ at the workshop who will be able to answer questions and also look at any ideas you have for your own AWPF panel and provide you with feedback to get you going.

Paul James, WPF distinctions officer.

2023 Ace of Clubs Results

Eleven Clubs entered the 2023 Ace of Clubs although one of them (Rhiwbina) was not in attendance and so couldn’t take part in round 2 and the final.

With so few clubs entering, all clubs progressed to the final. Therefore, rounds one and two became an excercise in assessing the judge’s preferences ready for the decisive final round.

Congratulations go to Gwynfa and Bridgend who finished first and second in the final and have been invited to represent the WPF at the PAGB Inter Club PDI Championship in Warwick later this year.

Invitation to enter the 2023 Ace of Prints

Your Club’s is invited to compete in the annual WPF Ace of Prints competition on 2nd July, 2023.

The location is yet to be confirmed but will probably be in Talbot Green or Briton Ferry, unless there is a Club out there that would host the event for us. If you have a hall available and are interested contact Roy Thomas (details below).

Closing date for entries will be 18th June 2023. Please notified Roy Thomas of your intention to enter as soon as possible.

The competition is in two rounds. Round one is for 12 prints and the list of prints for must be given to Roy Thomas by the closing date. Round two is for 15 prints and this list is to be prepared on the day, after seeing the first round judging.

Each club may bring an unlimited ‘bank’ of prints but please read the  conditions of entry relating to their use.

Prints can be delivered to Roy Thomas or brought to the venue by 9.00am on the day of the competition. The competition would then start following sorting and interleaving of all Club prints. (Note, all prints need to be labelled with Club name, photographer’s name and title).

The top two Clubs in the competition will be invited to represent us at the PAGB Inter Club Print event held every year in Blackburn.

WPF Print Exhibition in Bridgend

Following on from our PAGB Exhibition in the Quadrant Shopping Centre in Swansea, Urban Foundry (who arranged the Swansea exhibition) have now organised a space for us to hold an exhibition in Bridgend Indoor Market from January to March.

The Market is centrally placed in Bridgend (CF31 1DL). The Rhiw carpark is immediatly opposite the  Market, and offers 3 hours free car parking

We intend to use the 50 best prints from the Memorial Trophy Competition to hang at this venue for February and March.  In January we will use the space for an ad-hoc exhibition. This will bring our Federation, its photographers and their images to a new audience.

Please visit these splendid Exhibitions and sign the Visitor’s Book.
