Graham Jones

Sad news from Des Daughton at Trostre CC..

It is with sadness and deep regret that I have to inform you of the death of our dear friend Graham Jones, Upper Tumble.

In his time a staunch member of the Trostre Camera Club who will be greatly missed not only for his photography but for his slant on different matters, his great advice and also for his wry sense of humour.

May he rest in peace.

Salon Results Posted

Hi All

At last 2018 Welsh Salon results are out and all entrants should have received an email of their results. Apologies that due to a short spell in hospital they were delayed

Congratulations to all who had acceptances and awards. This year the standard was very high with many PDIs and prints scoring 12 or over. In most internationals 12 is enough for an acceptance, and sometimes 11 is the bench mark. In our salon all the PDIs that scored 12 and over were accepted. However, with the prints we had to have an in/out with those scoring 12 or we would have ended up with more than the number it is possible to exhibit (a maximum of 150 prints).

On the day I commented that it was a shame that some of those 12s that didn’t get selected were unlucky as some of them were really good. I was immediately corrected by the judging panel who said ALL those scoring 12 (whether accepted or not) were really good.

The salon exhibition will be held this year in the Volcano Theatre, High Street, Swansea in June. We’ll announce full details and the official opening date later.

It was a great weekend and I would like to thank all who helped out to make it so.

Again sorry for the unavoidable delay.

Grand Master Ian

The Photographic Society of America has a series of honours for photographic achievement and Ian Ledgard of Towy Valley has just been awarded the honour GMPSA (Grand Master). The qualification is for achieving 3000 acceptances in PSA recognised exhibitions. We believe Ian is the first person in Wales to receive this honour.

Well done Ian, that’s an incredible effort.

Results of Bridgend CC 5 to 8 Competition 2018

This years 5 to 8 Competition for digital PhotoHarmony AV sequences was held on the 19th March and despite the snowy conditions the Judge Howard Bagshaw ARPS MPAGB, safely made it to Bridgend. This years competition attracted it’s largest ever entry with sequences from a number of countries.

After a short introduction the evening continued with the showing of sequences. A brief critique of the sequence then follows. At the end of an entertaining evening Howard had the unenviable task of picking the top sequences, his choice was:

Winner
Ian Bateman – Going Underground – Exmouth PG

Runner Up
Martin Addison – Finding Narnia – Worcestershire CC
Norman Horsham – Autumn – Mid Thames AV

Highly Commended
Martin Addison – Glassworks – Worcestershire CC
Martin Fry – Winter White – Cheltenham CC

Commended
Nellian Bekker – Impressions – South Africa
Bert Schmitz – Abandoned – Housatonic CC USA

Congratulations to all, in particular to Ian Bateman on his second successive win and to Martin Addison for his double success in this year competition.

Bridgend CC would like to thank Howard Bagshaw for all his hard work in judging the entries and for providing helpful and constructive criticism of every sequence. A big thank you must go to all who braved the wintery weather to support the evening.
