Pixels 2016 Results – The Battle of the Vales

Pixels 2016 took place at Talbot Green Community Centre on Saturday 5th November 2016 and was a tense and exciting but low scoring affair. It was a particularly good day if you have the word ‘Vale’ in your club name. The Vale Photographic Club (69 points) were very narrow winners ahead of Ebbw Vale Camera Club (with 67 points).

The Vale photos were: Cycle Racing by Paul Tromans (15), Aim by Terry Verrinder (20), Male Shelducks Fighting by Nick Craddock (16) and Not Me Ref by Mike Davies (18). Click on the links to see the photographs.

Third place went was shared by three clubs on 65 points, Cwmbran, Tenby & Gwynfa.

The judge was David LOWE ARPS DPAGB from Smethwick PS who gave an excellent critique of all the entries. He was concise, humorous and informative. David also selected Red Fox in Snow by Andy Teesdale of Clwb Camera Caernarfon as Best Monochrome Photograph and Not Giving Up by Huw Fairclough of Ebbw Vale Camera Club as Best Colour Photograph.

Gwynfa Camera Club would like to thank everyone who attended the competition and all the clubs who entered. Without you, this would not be possible.

In Loving Memory of Jan Williams

It is with deep sadness that Western Valley Camera Club announces the passing of Jan Williams, one of our long standing members and a friend to all.  Jan was indeed the backbone of our club and was dedicated to her role as our secretary, a dedication that she carried forward into her position with the Welsh Photographic Federation.

Jan was always there to provide help and support to anyone, she enjoyed nothing more than sharing her experience and knowledge with others but also took great pleasure in learning new skills from her fellow photographers.

Jan was enthusiastic, generous with her time and nothing was ever too much trouble. The space that she has left both in WVCC and the WPF will be very hard to fill but we will all be left with fond, happy memories of a lovely lady and a dear friend.

All of our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time.

Jan’s funeral is on Wednesday 9th November, but the time has been changed to 12 o’clock at the  Gwent Crematorium Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran, NP44 2BZ.

2016 Celtic Challenge Results

The WPF hosted the annual Celtic Challenge Competition at the Glamorgan Holiday Hotel Porthcawl recently. Visitors from 5 of the Federations who competed enjoyed an abundance of splendid photography, and a masterclass in how to judge a competition by Martin Fry FRPS, APAGB, AFIAP, AV-AFIAP. The Republic of Ireland won the Competition, and won 2 of the “Best in” awards, for colour print and projected image.

It was generally agreed that the event was a great success and well put together. Every print was projected  on to a large screen through Live View so everyone could see them in detail, and the projected images were displayed using DiCentra which put titles and scores on screen.

In the evening we enjoyed a splendid 4 course meal at the Hotel and welcomed Madeline Moon MP as a special guest. The Meal was preceded by entertainment by the Morlais Male Choir.

Here are the overall results and here are the individual results for monochrome prints, colour prints and PDI’s.

Barrian Cup 2016 Results

It was an excellent day of photography. The judge for the day was Michael Krier ARPS, MA (photography) from the Cotswolds. He was one of the best judges we have had at the Barrian Cup he was concise and to the point and had something positive to say about all the prints. Having spoken to him during the day he said the photography was of a very high standard and a lot of the prints would gain awards and acceptances in international exhibitions.
