Sad news from Des Daughton at Trostre CC..
It is with sadness and deep regret that I have to inform you of the death of our dear friend Graham Jones, Upper Tumble.
In his time a staunch member of the Trostre Camera Club who will be greatly missed not only for his photography but for his slant on different matters, his great advice and also for his wry sense of humour.
May he rest in peace.
We are also pleased to annouce that Sue Ashford of Swansea CC recently became an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society (ARPS).
Our congratulations go to her.
The Salon Exhibition this year is in the The Cynon Valley Museum, Aberdare, CF44 8DL. It runs throughout May.

Hi All
At last 2018 Welsh Salon results are out and all entrants should have received an email of their results. Apologies that due to a short spell in hospital they were delayed
Congratulations to all who had acceptances and awards. This year the standard was very high with many PDIs and prints scoring 12 or over. In most internationals 12 is enough for an acceptance, and sometimes 11 is the bench mark. In our salon all the PDIs that scored 12 and over were accepted. However, with the prints we had to have an in/out with those scoring 12 or we would have ended up with more than the number it is possible to exhibit (a maximum of 150 prints).
On the day I commented that it was a shame that some of those 12s that didn’t get selected were unlucky as some of them were really good. I was immediately corrected by the judging panel who said ALL those scoring 12 (whether accepted or not) were really good.
The salon exhibition will be held this year in the Volcano Theatre, High Street, Swansea in June. We’ll announce full details and the official opening date later.
It was a great weekend and I would like to thank all who helped out to make it so.

Morriston Camera Club Annual Exhibition 4th – 7th April 2018
During our 4 day Annual Exhibition, Morriston Camera Club will be showing 80+ photographs. Members of the club, both experienced photographers and those new to the hobby, show examples of their work, encompassing a diverse range of photography styles. Admission is free.

Location: The Crypt, St. David’s Church, Woodfield Street, Morriston. SA6 8AS
Dates & Times: Wednesday – Friday 4th – 6th April (10.00 – 17.00) and Saturday 7th April (10.00 – 13.00).
For anyone thinking about becoming a WPF judge and would like to know more about judging, could you please contact me (judgepresent@thewpf.co.uk), so that I can arrange an informal meeting. This usually takes the form of a ‘mock’ judging session where you are given a set of prints to critique, and Jan and I go through them with you and guide you through the main points. It is very informal, consisting of four or five applicants, and takes place at Rose Cottage.

The assessment of this year’s AWPF candidates took place at Talbot Green Community Centre on Sunday 5th November 2017. There were 19 entries, 16 print and 3 digital, resulting in 11 successful candidates gaining their AWPF.

The day was made possible because of the help given by many dedicated people and I would like to thank them all, in particular. The Judges for their detailed critique, our President Cliff Emery for opening the proceedings and presenting the certificates to the successful candidates, John Cooke our past distinctions Officer for his guidance, Jan Cawley for arranging the buffet, Dave Rees, Howard Evans, Ron Lines, Guy Butler-Madden, and Allan Squires.
The standard was very high this year and those less successful candidates, all of which were so close to gaining the award, are recommended to address the constructive comments made by the judges and apply again next year. We hold a workshop in the spring to advise potential applicants on how to construct a successful panel.
Next year’s Applications for the AWPF, will open at the WPF’s AGM on the 4th March 2018.
The workshop will be in May 2018 and the assessment day will be next November.
