Len Beard 1933–2013
We regret that we have more sad news to report. Len Beard, a founder member of Velindre and Trostre Camera Club passed away on the 9th April. The following obituary is from Des Daughton.
Len joined Velindre Camera Club at the works in the mid ’60’s, when members met in the old huts formerly used by on-site contractors. He had the first of many successful entries in the Welsh Salon soon afterwards. This year saw him gain 3 acceptances to the Salon, A digital image called Journey’s End and two prints named A Quiet Corner and Moonshine.

In Memory of David Hunt Hon. FWPF, AWPF
From the website of Barry Camera Club -Â A tribute written jointly by their members, prepared for David’s funeral and posted here in his memory.
Â
David was a member of Barry Camera Club for well over fifty years – half the club’s history. He also served on the Welsh Photographic Federation committee for twelve years, having a huge influence on the Welsh national photographic scene and being awarded the Honorary Fellowship.
The Camera Club members here today will remember him with great fondness for his astounding images of caving taken with flash powder – an explosive mixture of magnesium powder – a complex operation to do when above ground, but insanely difficult in underground conditions. These images will haunt our memories forever and have been widely published in caving magazines; he was showing these images in camera clubs right up to last year. When Martin Farr, a famous cave photographer, came to visit us, he held him in high esteem and commented that Dave had been an inspiration for him.
David had a very strict view of what a photograph was. “But is it photography?†was a commonly heard catchphrase when presented with an image that hadn’t involved just a camera and a light-sensitive film, plate or sensor. However, he adapted to the digital age enthusiastically, being one of the first to go digital and in later years producing superb images of fungi, clouds and butterflies – all with Latin names written out in full to confound the judges.
