Tom Hill

We have received this sad news:

“Aberdare Camera Club are very sad to announce that one of our long-standing members Tom Hill passed away on Sunday 14th Sept. Tom was a member of the club for many years, had served as Treasurer and was a real stalwart with his commitment and enthusiasm. He was a talented, keen photographer who approached his hobby with both wisdom and humour. He was also a true gentleman, always considerate of others. He is going to be greatly missed by us all.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends at this sad time”

Many thanks, Lesley Newcombe (ACC Secretary).

Camera Club Members may wish to attend a memorial service in memory of Tom which will be held on Friday 26th September, 1.45pm at Miskin Christian Centre, Miskin,  Mountain Ash.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the British Heart Foundation and may be deposited with either of Tom’s sons, Mark or Jeoffrey.

Judge & Presenter News

Ed Cloutman has informed us that he has done away with the Judges and Presenters STATISTICS forms as they no longer serve much purpose.  If Judges or Presenters have any problems or wish to change or add to their presentations, please email him directly at judgepresent@thewpf.co.uk

The Judges and Presenters Assessment Forms will, of course, remain as they are very valuable for feedback. Please remember to complete them as often as you can.

Online Presenters Assessment Form

As the club season is coming to an end (for some clubs), he is going to send out individual feedback to each judge with a summary of general comments made about them throughout the last year. These are strictly confidential. The feedback will also give judges an idea of the way their ratings are progressing, and for those who have not yet got any stars, how many more returns are required for them to have a rating.

He is also going to try and ensure that all our judges on the Supplementary List get the boost they need to go on the Main List.

Photomarathon Success for WPF members

Two WPF club members were topic finalists in the recent Cardiff Photomarathon which saw 400 photographers compete to take the best photos on 12 topics in 12 hours.

Susan Plant of Port Talbot was a finalist in the ‘Street Level’ topic and Leigh Woolford of Gwynfa was a finalist in the ‘Control’ topic. Congratulations to both. Photos below.

The 2014 Photomarathon Exhibition is open at the Cardiff Story until July 5th.

If you achieved success in the 2014 Photomarathon, please let us know.

Jim Holland

This sad news from Ebbw Vale.

We are sad to report that Jim Holland, vice Chairman at Ebbw Vale Camera Club has passed away. Jim will be known by many in the WPF as he was Chairman of our club for all but one of the years we have been in existence, he stepped down last October at the AGM but remained on the committee as vice chair. A strong character in the club he has kept us going when times have been tough. He will be missed. RIP.

Jim

Welcome Kidewelly

Big apologies for the omission of Kidwelly Camera Club from our previous post welcoming six new clubs to the WPF. Seemingly in their place we included Gower Photographic Society, who aren’t new to the WPF, they have just changed their name (from Mumbles & West Cross).

This was solely an error on the part of our news editor (that’s me). It was the Gower name change that threw me off the scent. I was looking for six new names on the list and thought I had found them all.

So, to all Kidwelly members, I am very sorry for upsetting you!

Derek Jones

Sad news from Tony Falla of Monmouth PC.

Derek Jones one of the founder members of Monmouth Photographic Club has passed away aged 87. It is our understanding that he was involved in the setting up of the Lampeter Convention which he attended for many years. His funeral will take place on Wednesday 5th Feb.

Leigh’s Iceland Blog

This from our News Editor, Leigh Woolford:

When I am giving my presentation to clubs, members often ask about the practicalities of travelling to Iceland. Therefore I decided to add a blog post to my website. You can see it here. It provides some basic information about flights, car hire, hotels and costs.

I hope some of you find it of interest. If you have any questions, you can ask them via the blog page. I’ll do my best to answer if I can…
